What is the Fourth Law of Stratospheric Sucess?

The Law of Authenticity states “the most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.”

This law makes sense to me because each of us are unique.

Granted, in the business world, many people have accounting skills. Every business needs someone to make the accounting records and keep in legal compliance. These concepts make sense.

Most businesses will operate with the expectation that everyone is replaceable because eventually everyone will be replaced. In a business that lives over 50 years, most employees that were with the business when it started will move on. It happens. It is the natural result of time.

What I’ve found is that even though the people change and the responsibilities may be transferred to another person, the “new” way of doing things is never an exact replacement of the “old” way of doing things.

Caroline had her way of working. We did what made sense to her. Her smile was hers and hers alone.

Now, since she’s retired, John is responsible for the work, but he doesn’t have the same skills and understanding that Caroline did. He doesn’t come in each morning and greet me with a smile. He doesn’t laugh at my cheesy jokes.

It just isn’t the same because he isn’t her.

No matter what we do in life, we are the only one who can do it the way we do it. If I try to do something the way someone else does it, it doesn’t make sense because it isn’t me.

Who would trust a relationship with someone who isn’t genuine? Are they just telling me what I want to hear? (Or what they think I want to hear?)

That’s not a relationship.

I’m on a team that is designing something. During our last discussion about the design, one of the other people used the phrase “my way.”

That isn’t a team. That is a dictatorship.

But, I didn’t say anything at the time. With this law in mind, I know I want to tell them my input or else it will set the team up to fail.

Being alive means having feelings and thoughts. Not sharing those thoughts and feelings is essentially the same as “the living dead.” We may be walking and talking, but it’s kinds scary and no one wants to be around that type of person. They “drain the life” out of us.

Are you part of the living dead just walking and talking (zombie-like going through the motions)?

I was.
