I always felt like my parents were on a diet of some sort. Many times, because they bought the food, this meant that I was also on that diet as well. I hated changing our diet every few months. I do not think it ever really taught me how to eat.
I’m sure you’ve heard “eat right and exercise” is the way to a healthy and fit body. But what did that really mean?
And now, as you can imagine, many times I’ve started a new diet and picked up the rules relatively quickly. Mostly though, I ignore the rules and don’t exactly follow the diet because diets don’t work. (Trust me, I’ve been on more diets that I can count and my weight shows it.)
Unfortunately, what that means is that my body (usually) doesn’t respond as well to my poor eating habits any more. Most diets may take off 10 pounds, and put on 15.
It was probably around 2006 that I realized I didn’t want to “do” another diet. In fact, I’d just given up on the whole idea and started to accept being overweight. And I was living like it. I had stopped caring about how unhealthy I really was.
Let me tell you when you have a problem like that coupled with the frustration of being single and having no one to date because of being overweight, you are always looking for a way to hide out. And was I… So much so that I found myself wearing all sorts of baggy (unbecoming) clothes and weight-loss products in my quest to either be fat and happy or healthy and fit. If I was going to be fat, I didn’t want other people to notice it.
I didn’t expect it to be easy. In fact, I didn’t even expect it to be fast. I just wanted to be free from the lifeless bags of fat and rolls of “love handles” as my family referred to them. I’m not much into love handles and I didn’t want to spend my days carrying the extra weight. I dreamed of a life where I ran and hiked more days than not and spent more time outside than on a chair.
Most diets that I tried were either too restrictive or involved so much investment in both food preparations and special meal planning for so little reward I quickly found out it was not going to be as easy as I first expected. And, since I was working a full time job and raising a family, I didn’t know how it was going to happen at all. So I gave up.
Fast forward to 2014. One of my friends posted a weight-loss challenge on Facebook. It was a short, quick challenge I believed I could do. So I accepted the invitation and started downloading the meal plan and making my grocery list. For the next 10 days, I would be eating a different way than I’d ever eaten. And, the challenge included exercise too. And the program was different. In addition to taking me by the hand and guiding me step-by-step and day-by-day, I was also in a support group of others who accepted the challenge.
Now, months later, with my life in full-swing, working a full-time job, teaching a class at church that includes participating in and planning weekly activities, as well as raising a family and maintaining a home, things are really starting to happen. I’ve started to make healthier choices for myself both to protect my body and my family’s health.I quickly found that minor changes in eating habits would move me closer to my dream of a healthy and fit body. And, if it meant moving only an inch a day, I would gladly accept that inch forward over the utter disappointment of not accomplishing anything with my time.
So by design, I had begun following the weight-loss challenge and have had it work well …… very very well.
This was when I decided that I wanted to help others be fit and healthy for the rest of my life. I didn’t want to just reap the rewards myself. I wanted to share these tools and resources with others. That’s when MischaBock.com was born. And here we are today, you sitting here reading this blog and hopefully learning from it. Believe me if someone told me what I would be doing today, I would have laughed, but here we are, now you may be wondering why I’m telling you this. Well here’s why.
I decided I had to do something with my life, I hated my body. I hated eating each day and expecting to be fatter tomorrow than I was today. I hated the fact I used to live meal-to-meal and never really feel satisfied about anything that I ate. In fact, I ate constantly. I ate out of boredom. I ate when I was happy, or sad. I ate when I was tired. I ate.
However, my story is nothing new, in fact you may even be able to relate to this, and if you can you need to understand one thing. Only one person could do something about my body.
ME!
Not my family, not my grocer, not the prime minister, not my dear Grandma, but me. This is what you must understand. Only one person can change your life.
YOU!
Once you grasp this concept things will start to change for the better, if you hate your body, and hate having poor health, can’t run because you can’t breathe or are just plain sick and tired or whatever situation you find yourself in it can change, but only you can change it.
Sure, I am here to guide and teach you but your success is in your hands and nothing can change that. You have to grasp what the Internet, and more importantly the information age has to offer, a better life for us all. We are all extremely fortunate to be living in this age, just 10 years ago a healthy and fun lifestyle was not possible for someone who didn’t know where to turn. But now it is possible for each and every one of us. Because of the Internet and the fact people will provide information, and it can only get bigger and better in the future. The Internet is creating resources for healthy and fit people on a daily basis.
